Curbside Recycling is Coming to Playa del Carmen

We all know how important it is to recycle. But let’s face it, people are busy. That’s why anything the local government can do to help people take time out of their busy schedules to care for the planet makes a world of difference, and regular recycling pick-up service is one of the best ways to make it easy for everyone in the community to do their part.

Up until now, recycling options in Playa del Carmen have consisted mostly of drop-off programs, like the monthly recycling drive for the municipality, the Kilo Verde program, and the recycling collection center at Parque La Ceiba. Some of the schools in our area run their own recycling programs and you can also find recycling bins at most supermarkets and big box stores. People living in Playa del Carmen are encouraged to sort their recycling and bring it to one of the drop-off locations.

But even with all of these wonderful recycling initiatives operating in our community, many people are still confused about their options and view recycling as an inconvenient and tedious task. This is especially true for people who work long hours, and who don't have adequate space at home to store their recycling or a reliable means to transport it to one of the drop-off locations.

Fortunately, the Municipality of Solidaridad recognizes the importance of recycling and is taking the next steps to make it easier for everyone. So mark your calendars, because beginning on Monday, June 5th curbside recycling is coming to Playa del Carmen!

So if you haven’t already, it’s time to start sorting your trash. The collection schedule is as follows:

Monday, Wednesday, Friday & Saturday

  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Organic waste
  • Inorganic waste

Tuesday & Thursday

  • Paper and cardboard
  • Plastic
  • Aluminum and cans

Pick-up is from 7am to 5pm Monday through Friday and from 7am to 1pm on Saturdays.
