7 WAYS TO BEAT THE HEAT DURING A PLAYA DEL CARMEN SUMMER
Thanks to temperatures well into the 90s, it's easy to see that summer has arrived down here in paradise. You'd be surprised how quickly you get used to the tropical heat when moving to Playa del Carmen, but every once in a while there's a day when you could fry a huevo on the sidewalk. Here are some of our best tips for staying cool during the summer in the beach town of Playa del Carmen:
1. Make it a beach day!
The first and most obvious way to beat the heat has to be a day at the beach. The sand is so fine that it doesn't get hot, and when the sun's too much you can just take a dip in the cool, calm Caribbean Sea. Plus you can take advantage of the extra sunshine to work on a tropical tan.
2. Paletas
These traditional Mexican-style popsicles are big on flavor, filled with bright colors and cold, cold, cold! So summery. They're typically made with fresh fruit can be made as spicy as you like. Here's a recipe for Mexican paletas that you might enjoy.
3. A cold beer
Just don't leave it sitting on the beach for too long!
4. Aguas frescas
Mexico sure knows how to work with fresh ingredients. Aguas frescas (roughly translating too "refreshing waters") are light juices made with any of your favorite fruits, or other natural products like cucumber and best of all jamaica (hibiscus flower). 5. Loose cotton clothing
Nothing says "beach" like a bright, flowy outfit! And it keeps you cool.
6. Cold midday showers
Mexicans often take 2 or 3 showers a day. It's a habit we could all learn from when the midday temps get high! Afterwards, you'll feel cooler and less sticky.
7. Go out in the evenings
If you can tear yourself away from the beauty of Playa del Carmen during the hottest hours of the day, try keeping your time outdoors to the evenings. Don't worry, 5th Avenue is just as beautiful and exciting after the sun goes down.
