SLOW FOOD ON ISLA MUJERES
Isla Mujeres is an island oasis for golf carts and boats with incredible views, plenty of shops, restaurants and bars to choose from. An easy day trip from Cancun or Playa del Carmen, this tiny island is big with tourists and expats for its incredible variety of activities and laid back island attitude.
One of my favorite ways to start the day on the island, or spend a lazy Sunday with good company, is at Bally Hoo. This adorable palapa restaurant is located on the dock behind the Pemex station just a few blocks north from the passenger ferry docks.
If you find the giant replica of an ancient Olmeca statue, you know you are in the right spot!
Bally Hoo is a peaceful epicenter in a bustling beach and dock area; a great place for watching people, fishermen, boats and pelicans.
This quaint looking fishing shack palapa on the dock invites its patrons to chill out, slow down, watch the waves roll in and out and enjoy some good home cookin'. They offer great breakfasts at a reasonable price, fish tacos and margaritas, and many other traditional Mexican favorites. The food and the service are just as wonderful as the atmosphere and the view.
What's the rush!? Have another cup of coffee or another cocktail and enjoy watching the hustle and bustle of the dock....
or gaze out to sea and the Cancun landscape in the distance...
or sit back and watch the fishing boats bring in their fare...
While biking the island, wandering the ruins, snorkeling, shopping, hitting the zip lines at Parque Garafon, swimming with Dolphins at Dolphin Discovery, marveling at the turtles in the turtle farm, swimming with whale sharks, boating, floating in the calm waters of North Beach, and exploring all there is to see and do on the island is a fantastic way to spend the day, give me an hour or so to catch up with the rest of the group, I need to sip and sit and watch the world go by for a little longer here at Bally Hoo.
