What to Do with the Kids This Summer: Gymnastics, Martial Arts, & Music
The mercury is rising and the heat is on which means school is going to get out soon. But what to do with the kiddos once that happens? For kids of almost any age, they can continue or begin a new endeavor. What child has not oo-ed and ah-ed over the gymnastics portion of the Olympics? Many kids have been inspired by martial arts movies such as Karate Kid or the legend Bruce Lee. And who is not soothed or animated by the effects of music? Giving your child or children a choice of classes to choose from or to try gives a child a chance to see where they excel and to develop where they do not.
Gymnastics
Gymnastics being a group, as well as, individual sport, allows children to develop socially and physically. It will show kids how to deal with physical and emotional challenges in life. They will learn to communicate with people their own age by working within a team. All this while listening, following directions, taking turns, being quiet, and respecting others, especially their coach. Kids have fun while learning new skills and practicing to get better which teaches them discipline and commitment.
An important factor to find in a gymnastics coach is one with experience. Carlos Aminzade Quiros of Gimnasio Aminzade here in Pedegral, Playa del Carmen is just that. With over 50 years of experience, Professor Carlos is the perfect example of dedication to this sport that you will not find anywhere else. Gymnastics is demanding and with many details that are important to safety, He offers classes Monday thru Saturday and you can contact him for the days you would like your child to train. He has an extensive curriculum, including participating in the Mexican National Team that took part in the Olympics. Stop by to try a class for free.
Martial Arts
Martial arts is also a group sport that is heavy on the physical side but also teaches discipline. There are many types of martial arts such as Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Karate, Tae Kwon Do, etc, which also help with the self-esteem that a child can defend themselves. The sport’s psychology is respect for your opponent on and off the mats and when sparring. Each branch has its system of advancing with different colored belts which will give your child a sense of accomplishment and determination to improve.
A good choice for a variety of martial arts is Gracie Barra Playa del Carmen which has classes for kids Monday thru Friday at 6:00 p.m. They give classes in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Judo, and Muay Thai. Come by for a free class at Av 95 and Av Constituyentes.
Music
Music is a great way to connect with friends. Not only do you share making music together, but you also learn the fundamentals of music and take on the healing benefits. Some of the different ways to get involved with music are singing or playing an instrument. Music is in our everyday lives and teaches patience, discipline and helps with memory since it stimulates different areas of the brain. It can be a confidence builder to kids who do not excel in sports.
The Xuuxnë program in Parque La Ceiba offers classes in singing, guitar, and violin. The classes are offered Tuesday thru Friday. Check with them for what classes are what days. Trial classes are available.
