Andaz Mayakoba Opens in Playa del Carmen

This past week, BuyPlaya was invited to tour Andaz Mayakoba Resort Riviera Maya, a new 590-acre luxury resort opening this month in the eco-friendly Mayakoba resort complex, just north of Playa del Carmen. This is the first Mexican resort for the Andaz brand, and it joins the Andaz resort collection, which currently includes properties in Costa Rica, Maui, and Scottsdale.

Designed to offer guests, “inspiring new experiences that will fully immerse them in the local culture during their stay,” Andaz Mayakoba's 214 open layout guestrooms feature artisan decor and are housed in 28 modern buildings that overlook the lagoons, the golf course, or the stunning Caribbean coastline. The property’s original design, including the geometry of the roofs and colorful murals by local graffiti artist Senkoe, is inspired by the more than 200 bird species found at Mayakoba.

The layout of the lobby and lounge area, with its circular water feature and oculus at the center, is inspired by the region’s ancient cenotes and the importance of astrology in Mayan culture; and the natural materials, colors, textures and finishes used throughout the resort property help to create a soothing atmosphere that blends in perfectly with the lush jungle setting.

Andaz Mayakoba offers four restaurants specializing in seafood and authentic Latin American and Yucatecan cuisine prepared with fresh ingredients. From intimate dining rooms and terraces overlooking the lagoon at Casa Amate, to the open kitchen farm-to-table concept at Cocina Milagro, and casual poolside dining at OllaTaco and OllaCeviche, each offers its own unique style.

And we couldn’t help but get excited about Andaz Mayakoba’s incredible 10,000 sq. ft. Naum Spa with six open-air treatment cabins and a full-service spa menu featuring indigenous Mayan spa treatments and products made from all-natural, locally sourced ingredients.

Some of the other fantastic amenities that you’ll find here include a secluded beach area, an outdoor pool and lap pool in the lagoon side section of the resort, a large beachside pool, a 24-hour state-of-the-art fitness center, flexible indoor-outdoor meeting and event facilities, and more.

There’s even an on-site Experience Curator whose job it is to oversee a variety of local events and cultural activities for guests!
