BuyPlaya Realtor Q&A with Annette Schaefer

We’re back with the second installment of our new Realtor Q&A series and this time we’re chatting with BuyPlaya Real Estate Agent Annette Schaefer. Below, Annette answers a few of our questions about her favorite places to visit in the Riviera Maya, why she likes working with BuyPlaya, and what makes this area such a great place to own real estate.

What brought you to the Riviera Maya?

I was watching the Travel Channel in New Mexico in 2003 and there was a segment on the most beautiful beach in the world. I had to come see it. One year later we purchased our first second home.

What's the best thing about living here?

There are so many, but if I had to name only one it would be waking up every morning and seeing the beautiful colors of the Caribbean Sea.

What's it like raising a family here?

I did not raise my children in Puerto Aventuras but this is their second home. We came as a family for many years.

What is your favorite activity/place to visit in the Riviera Maya?

Boogie boarding and surfing or anything that involves the water. Uxmal is one of the most incredible Mayan archeological sites. I never get tired of going.

Where is your favorite day trip for a day or two off?

Valladolid is a wonderful little Mayan town and there’s an awesome cenote and Mayan archeological site called Ek Balam that’s right by Valladolid. It’s an easy day trip.

What do you enjoy most about working in real estate?

What I enjoy most is finding clients their dream vacation home or permanent home.

What has been the most impactive change you’ve seen develop in the Riviera Maya while you have lived here?

The roads and overpasses for easier travel to Cancun and back. This has made traveling so much better.

What makes the Riviera Maya such a great area to buy?

The stunning Caribbean beaches, jungle all around you, Maya ruins, culture, some of the friendliest people, low cost of living, low taxes, non-invasive government, low crime rate, accessibility, good security and a great ex-pat community. In my opinion it can’t be beat.

What advice would you give someone looking to buy a property in the Riviera Maya?

Make sure when you work with a Realtor that they have your best interest in mind and not just their pocketbook. That’s why I like working with BuyPlaya because they are upfront from the beginning.

What listing would you recommend for purchase by a friend that was looking for a home to live in permanently with family?

I have an awesome single family home “Casa Caroline” on the golf course in Puerto Aventuras that is priced under $370,000 USD. To be this close to the Caribbean it’s a steal.

Thanks Annette!
