Father

Father’s Day is just around the corner, and you’re thinking, “What can I get for my dad that’s better than a tie?”

Here in Playa del Carmen, the city is filled with ways to celebrate dear old Dad; the key is to get out and explore the amazing activities this city has to offer! Whether you’re searching for an outing with kids or you’re a 20-something trying to take Dad out on the town, here are some of our favorite Father’s Day activities in Playa del Carmen, no matter how much you want to spend:

Father’s Day on the Cheap

If you’re up for spending less than $100 pesos per person on an amazing experience, try spending Father’s Day at one of the famed cenotes of the Riviera Maya. These natural springs can be found all over the place around Playa del Carmen; for easy access, try Cenote Azul or Cenote Jardin del Eden, both located just off the highway a few minutes south of Playa del Carmen.

Because nothing’s cheaper than free… take Dad to the beach! The beaches of Playa del Carmen are a great place to hang out with the family: build some sand castles, splash in the waves and enjoy the Caribbean Sea. Playacar Beach at the southern end of town and Shangri-La Beach at the end of 38th Street provide the best setting for a beach day in Playa.

And of course, kids ages 18 and up might just want to stick to 5th Avenue. Walk along 5th, pick your favorite bar and invite Dad to a few beers while you do some people-watching from your table.

Mid-Range Budget

Treat Dad and the rest of the family to Sunday brunch for Father’s Day. Imprevist restaurant serves upscale Sunday-style brunch every day of the week, with an extensive menu of mouthwatering options ranging from classic Mexican breakfasts to burgers and croquet monsieur. Imprevist has a great location on 1st Avenue between 14th and 16th Streets, steps from 5th Avenue and the beach!

For a little family adventure, head half an hour north of Playa del Carmen to Crococun, a small zoo near Puerto Morelos where kids and adults alike can interact with local animal species on a special tour, like crocodiles, macaws, spider monkeys and more. Crococun opens daily from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Tickets are $30 USD for adults, $20 USD for kids ages 6 – 12, and free for kids 5 and under… and Quintana Roo state residents get a 30% discount!

Pricey but Worth Every Peso

For the perfect blend of beach time, pool time and all you can eat, spend Father’s Day weekend at one of the all inclusive resorts around Playa del Carmen! Sandos Caracol has tons of amazing eco activities plus a water park with water slides for all ages, while Barcelo Maya has some of the best pools in the Riviera Maya.

And of course, the Riviera Maya’s immense parks also provide incredible fun for Father’s Day! Xcaret’s underground river, pristine inlets and vibrant cultural scene create the ideal setting for a day with the entire family, while Xplor’s huge ziplines and cave experiences are perfectly suited to families in search of adventure. If you’re a Quintana Roo state local, you can get some pretty great discounts at these parks; adults will need their IFE or temporary/permanent residency card, while kids must present ID from school with address in Quintana Roo, or school report card with photograph.

With so many family activities to fit any budget, it’s no wonder dads love living in Playa del Carmen so much!
