LOCAL RIVIERA MAYA ECO-PARK OFFERS NEW ACTIVITY
Xel-Ha, a world class eco-park located in the Riviera Maya near Playa del Carmen has a new eco-activity for water loving visitors from all over the world. Now visitors can interact with live stingrays. The stingrays live in the eco-park's tranquil crystalline waters in a naturally protected inlet where fresh water from cenotes and saltwater from the ocean mingle. Xel-Ha is well known as a snorkeling paradise in the Riviera Maya with calm water and many brightly colored fish.
The stingrays in the park's new interactive eco-activity are free and are not kept in captivity. Xel-Ha is the only place in Mexico where park guests are encouraged to interact with stingrays in a completely free environment.
Stingrays are completely harmless and quite friendly. Although they have a rather odd appearance, they are incredibly graceful. They seem to effortlessly fly through the water while flapping their bodies and to jump through the air. Visitors will now have the opportunity to learn about these intriguing creatures while being in the water with them, feeding them, touching them and holding them.
The aim of this new interactive activity at Xel-Ha is to educate visitors about the protection and conservation of these gentle creatures and hopefully to instill a greater appreciation for this endangered species. Professional instructors provide guests with information about stingrays while giving them a hands-on experience with these gentle creatures.
The stingrays at Xel-Ha have all been given Mayan names in keeping with the ancient traditions and culture of this region of Mexico. Xel-ha, which means, inlet of water, plays host to stingrays named; Bo'ox which means black or dark skin, Ki'in meaning sun, and Zama meaning dawn, among many other stingrays that are waiting to meet you.
