Mexican Independence Day Events 2019
On the night of September 15th, the entire country of Mexico will come together to celebrate their independence. Every year Mexicans gather at their local zocalos, bars and restaurants for “El Grito” (The Cry of Independence), yelling “Viva Mexico!” out of pride for this amazing country.
And in Playa del Carmen, we will be doing the same. Just like any other year, for September 15, 2019 many local bars, restaurants and even beach clubs are offering specials and fun Mexican events. Here’s the list of the ones we have found so far:
Independence Day Celebration with Lila Downs
When: September 15th at 8pm
Where: Palacio Municipal in Playa del Carmen
Grammy award-winning artist, Lila Downs, will perform at this year’s Independence Day celebration at the Palacio Municipal in Playa del Carmen. The show starts at 8pm and admission is free.

Noche Mexicana at the City Theater (Teatro de la Ciudad)
When: September 15th at 7pm
Where: Teatro de la Ciudad, Circuito Chinchorro next to Walmart
Enjoy an evening of traditional music and ballet folklorico with Gozadera Mexicana and Amaté Danza y Arte Escénico at the beautiful City Theater in Playa del Carmen. Doors open at 7pm and admission is free.

Independence Day Party at Ciudad Mayakoba
When: September 14th from 5pm to 10pm
Where: Ciudad Mayakoba at Mayakoba resort complex, entrance off the highway 5 minutes north of Playa del Carmen
Mayakoba is the perfect atmosphere to celebrate Mexican Independence Day! This family-friendly fiesta will feature fireworks, mariachi music, and incredible cuisine. The festivities kick off at 5pm and admission is free.

Gran Kermés Viva Mexico Independence Day Party
When: September 15th from 4pm to 8pm
Where: Playacar Center, Paseo Xaman-ha, Playacar
Bring the family and enjoy an evening of live mariachi music, Mexican food and craft beer. Plus shop for Mexican handicrafts and artwork. This event is pet-friendly and admission is free.

Kermés Mexicana Independence Day Party at Selina
When: September 14th from 6pm to 9pm
Where: Selina Playa del Carmen, Calle 2 Norte 130
Bring the family and enjoy an evening of games, food and music. This is a fantastic event for kids of all ages and admission is free. This event is pet-friendly.

Mixología Mexicana at The Fives
When: September 14th from 5pm to 10pm
Where: The Fives Plaza, Acceso Xcalacoco
Celebrate Mexican Independence Day at The Fives Plaza with food stands, live music, and creative cocktails. This is a family-friendly event and admission is $750 pesos per person.

Independence Day Party at INTI Beach
When: September 15th at 6pm
Where: INTI Beach Club, on the beach between 4th and 6th Streets
Celebrate Mexican Independence Day on the beach! This year INTI Beach is hosting an Independence Day party with food and drink specials and music by DJ Mr. Bassie.

El Grito Brunch at Thompson Playa del Carmen
When: September 15th from 10am to 6pm
Where: Thompson Playa del Carmen, 12th Street between 5th and 10th Avenues
Thompson Beach House and CGRILL restaurant are hosting an Independence Day brunch. The cost is $499 pesos ($399 pesos for locals). Beach club access is included and there’s an extra cost for the open bar.

Buffet Dinner at the Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen
When: September 15th from 6pm to 10pm
Where: Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen, Calle 26 and the beach
The Grand Hyatt is hosting a buffet dinner in celebration of Independence Day. The menu will feature a variety of traditional Mexican dishes and snacks. There will also be a traditional Mariachi band. The cost per person is $790 pesos per person (20% discount for Playa del Carmen residents).

Where: El Jardin del Arte, Selvamar

Gran Fiesta Mexicana at La Vagabunda Fiesta
When: September 15th at 7:30pm
Where: La Vagabunda Fiesta, Avenida 28 de Julio and the highway
Celebrate Mexican Independence Day with a family-friendly dinner at La Vagabunda. Enjoy a delicious Mexican buffet, music, dancing, and games for kids. The cost is $289 pesos for adults and $139 pesos for kids.
