ORGANIC PRODUCE TO YOUR DOOR IN PLAYA DEL CARMEN
A new project created in Playa del Carmen now allows you to purchase organic fruits and vegetables straight from the farm! Playa locals have begun to organize “Farmers at Your Door”, bringing organic, chemical-free produce from the state of Chiapas.
Our state of Quintana Roo is filled with its own kind of breathtaking natural beauty, but the limestone and soil are not great for agriculture, and many kinds of fruits and vegetables simply don’t grow well here, making it difficult to purchase produce straight from the source. The state of Chiapas, however, has rich soil and ideal conditions for farming; it’s relatively close location to Quintana Roo makes it a wonderful alternative for buying organic food in Playa del Carmen.

Karla Mongradon Perez, a biologist specializing in Organic Agriculture and Permaculture, says, “The idea is to bring these fruits and vegetables by paying in advance to small suppliers. This production will support 400 families who can’t always sell in Chiapas or end up selling at a very cheap price to abusive intermediaries.”
She also says that the lands where this produce is being cultivated has been farmed for over 500 years; these are isolated communities that don’t allow the use of pesticides or altered seeds. The water in these communities is not contaminated, and it adds over 50 natural minerals.
Right now,the Farmers at Your Door initiative has 10 participants and can bring up to 50 orders at a time. New orders will be brought in approximately every 2 weeks.
