You enter into a large open circle of water, then make your way along a winding river lined with mangrove roots on either side. The water in Tankah Cenote is 4 to 5 meters deep with great visibility.
Tankah Cenote connects to the ocean through a large tunnel that crosses beneath the road and the beach; if you snorkel just off the beach across the street, you'll come across the other opening of the tunnel. The ocean waters just offshore in Tankah Bay are filled with fascinating wildlife, beautiful underwater scenery and few waves, just perfect for snorkeling in the Caribbean Sea!
