The Scoop on the 2016 Riviera Maya Film Festival

The 5th annual Riviera Maya Film Festival begins tonight!

Each year, this extensive festival brings some of the best new films and documentaries from across the globe to the beaches of the Riviera Maya, providing several nights of memorable movie-going experiences for local cinephiles. The 2016 edition of the Riviera Maya Film Festival will take place Friday, June 24 through Thursday, June 30.

This year’s films will be shown in a variety of indoor and outdoor locations throughout Playa del Carmen, such as the beach by Parque Fundadores, Plaza 28 de Julio, Blue Parrot Beach Club, and under some of the bridges along the federal highway, Parque La Ceiba, the Teatro de la Ciudad (City Theater), and the Cinemex movie theater at Centro Maya. Best of all, most of the movie showings are FREE!

If you’re interested in learning more about the film industry, the Riviera Maya Film Festival is also organizing 2 days of FREE lectures, workshops and master classes. These will be lectured by renowned directors, actors, screenwriters and producers, and will take place Monday, June 27 and Tuesday, June 28 at the Blue Parrot Beach Club. Ever since it began back in 2012, the Riviera Maya Film Festival has offered something truly exciting for the people of Playa del Carmen and beyond. They say, “The RMFF wants to provide its audience with a memorable filmic experience, combining quality films and the matchless sceneries of the Riviera Maya. That way, we look forward to strengthen the State of Quintana Roo as a destination of international scope, invigorating cultural and economic growth in the region.”

The festival’s first screenings start tonight at Teatro de la Ciudad and Cinemex Centro Maya!
