The Secret Dinner: Wine & Dine With Tango & Candles
Dining out in the Riviera Maya is a true culinary adventure that brings together flavors, spices, colors, history and traditions. We are always excited and curious to find THE hidden gem and share it with you through our #buyplayafoodblogs. This time, we were certainly served what we had been wanting to experience: something different, new and incredible!
The Secret Dinner is an amazing and trendy concept: it is a pop-up dinner created uniquely once a month in a different location. The concept is presented to us by Copate Che Catering and Candle Boutique. The location is disclosed the same day of the event and sent to each of the guests that had previously reserved their spot.
This unique culinary experience is created by Chef Rene and his wife, Karla. Chef Rene is an expert in author’s cuisine and also loves to venture through different cuisines such as molecular cuisine, French, Italian, Mediterranean, Mexican, Bolivian and Argentinian cuisine, only to name a few. Karla hosts the events and sure knows how to present it in the most perfect way: taking care of every little detail and making sure every guest has a unique and special experience. Chef Rene and Karla are the proud owners and founders of Copate Che Catering, a hi-end catering service.
Marcos is the founder and owner of Candle Boutique, the only candle factory in the Riviera Maya established and renowned for many years in the area. In addition to the boutique where you can purchase his beautiful creations, you can also hire his services for weddings and events.
These three creative minds teamed up to create this monthly pop-up with an incredible and magical atmosphere, where food, music, art and dance combine perfectly in an intimate ambiance and space.
Here is a glimpse of our amazing first experience at “The Secret Dinner"!
First service: Grouper ceviche with basil pesto, accompanied by mango, raspberry, pitaya and crunchy wonton.
Of course, there could not have been a better pairing than a fresh and modern rosé such as Emina Rosé wine. A very elegant and fresh rosé that shows notes of floral and fruity aromas making it a delicate but intense wine.
The second service was a pleasant surprise for me, as I never had experienced beef tongue before....and I LOVED it!: Beef tongue with peanut emulsion, banana, fig, avocado spherification and edible flowers.
As we were now moving towards the meats, we were served an incredible red wine also from Spain called Cyan Roble: an intense wine, with firm but friendly tannins on the palate, cheerful acidity, easy to drink. It is also an innovative Spanish wine made under all ecological parameters, seeking the greatest kindness with the environment for its elaboration.
Of course, as a lamb lover myself, I would fall in love with the main course: Rack of lamb with roasted fennel bulb, beet mousse with cumin and mint, accompanied by sweet potato puree.
And let's simply say that the dessert was....a poem. Not only did it look like art, but it tasted like art, like passion!: Cheese rectangle with goat cheese parfait, almonds, rose petals with chocolate, hibiscus flower reduction, coconut oil and balsamic tears.
During dinner, we were entertained by an incredible duet with a singer and guitarist who brought a touch of romanticism and a perfect ambiance. And later on, tango dancers glided onto the dance floor and gave us an amazing spectacle. It was a perfect touch of passion that reflected the event’s purpose: sharing a passion for food, wine, art and music.
